About Pray America~Manos De Jesus
Pray America is a non-denominational 501C3 organization that began in the late 1980′s to serve those in need in Central America. Following God’s lead Chichicastenango, Guatemala became home for the ministry in 2003 with a mission house for prayer and for short-term mission teams. We are a NGO (non-governmental organization) Guatemalan based association operating under the name Manos de Jesus; the Hands of Jesus. To remain focused on our James 1:27 calling, Chichicastenango is the only base of operations for the Pray America/Manos De Jesus ministry.
We are a Jesus-centered ministry committed to loving and caring for the hurting and marginalized people in the Chichicastenango area. Our desire is to see these long-oppressed people realize spiritual, physical, emotional and relational freedom. The foundations of the ministry are a commitment to intercessory prayer, living in community with the people we serve, and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ through both words and works.
We are focused on, but not limited to, 3 communities in Chichicastenango – Paquixic, Xepocol, and Saquilla. We are active in approximately 40 Mayan communities overall. Our vision is to go deeper in these communities, moving them constantly closer to sustainability and more importantly into a relationship with Jesus. Relational trust that has been built over more than 10 years has been the key to reaching these communities through a series of weekly nutrition programs, widow house construction, water filtration systems, efficient vented cook stoves, solar powered audio bibles, and more.
None of this happens without Gods provision, and the love of people. Pray America employs a staff of over 75 native Guatemalans and a handful of Americans, that are supported by over 35 church teams from the US each year.
“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”
OUR VISION AND MISSION
To practice “pure religion” by caring for widows and orphans as the hands of Jesus, meeting their physical needs and helping them reach God’s intentions for them growing spiritually, physically, in wisdom and socially.

Founder of Pray America/Manos de Jesus
Ron worked in Central America for more than 25 years. He started with a Pastor’s Prayer Network in the 1980’s which led him to overseas mission work. At that time he also found himself in the midst of a large shoebox ministry. He facilitated the donation of bibles and toys placed in shoe boxes, and delivering them to Central America. The shoebox ministry continues today and is much larger than Ron could have ever imagined.
Following God’s call, Ron then found himself transporting as many donations and bibles as he could to orphanages in Central America. He soon felt called to minister to the Guatemalan people and began replacing dilapidated mobile homes with block homes at the Casa Bernebe Orphange in Guatemala City.
In 2003, Ron felt God’s call again, and he planted the Manos de Jesus ministry here in Chichicastenango. His love for the Guatemalan people was always evident as he walked the streets of Chichi handing out tickets for new shoes from our Shoe Factory here at Monte Flor. His heart for the people could also be seen as he seemed to continually hire Guatemalans into the ministry; and somehow payroll is met each month.
Ron had a vision that “Jesus Christ would be Lord and Savior over Chichi”! Over the last 14 years, God has used Ron to build a ministry and an infrastructure for ministry in Chichicastenango. From its beginnings of renting a mission house and hosting feeding programs, to the multi-faceted ministry on campus of Monte Flor, Ron’s vision of Jesus as Lord and Savior over Chichi continues to this day at Manos De Jesus.
“Papa Ron”, as he was known to so many staff at Manos De Jesus and mission team members, was a father figure to some, a grandfather figure to others and a mentor to all who came to know him. His love for God, his desire to hear God through prayer, his patience to wait on Him and then be obedient to His call are lessons learned by all who came in contact with Ron. We praise God for the life and service of our founder Ron Morin!
